Providers
Participating ABCD dentists contribute to the health and well-being of their young patients and the larger community.
Since 1995, ABCD has trained more than 2,000 dentists, dental students, and pediatric dental residents to care for the oral health of young children using the University of Washington-developed ABCD curriculum. These dentists provide quality preventive care and treatment to Medicaid-enrolled children from birth to six. Participating providers receive enhanced fees through Medicaid for providing certain preventive and restorative procedures. And many are able to build their practices while helping their communities by serving those most in need.
Spotlight: Dental Champions
Maureen Callender (formerly Craig), DDS, is an ABCD Provider and Dental Champion serving Thurston and Lewis Counties. Dr. Callender helps kids become more comfortable and confident in the dental office and enjoys building lasting relationships with families. She works closely with her local ABCD Coordinator to make sure the community’s needs are met and along with her colleagues at Small to Tall, is one of only a few pediatric dentists who provide specialty services to ABCD children in the South Sound. Dr. Callender has been an ABCD provider since 2011 and completed her masters thesis on the ABCD program.
Community involvement is very important to Dr. Callender. When she isn’t serving ABCD-eligible children in her office, she supports dozens of organizations including the Hands On Children’s Museum, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Olympia Union Gospel Mission, and local schools.
